PROJECT UPDATE – We’ve been fielding questions about the MRCDC’s ongoing stabilization work to save the former Bank of McKees Rocks building at 602 Chartiers Ave. and wanted to provide a public update.
Many of you have noted that a portion of the rear of the building along Plum Alley has fallen in and workers have been working diligently to bring the rest of that section of the building down. Contractors are removing the rear 20 feet of the building. The existing roof in that section was open to the sky and caused part of the 4th floor to give way due to long-term freeze-thaw processes.
MRCDC attracted several grants to remediate hazardous materials and stabilize the historic structure to ready it for future redevelopment. This work is ongoing.
