MRCDC Communications and Marketing Director Sonja Reis was honored by the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania for her contributions to Western Pennsylvania journalism through the former Gazette 2.0 print publication. She is now partnering with others to bring digital news source West Hills Gazette to McKees Rocks and beyond.

A new digital news source is coming to town!

West Hills Gazette – created in homage to previous print news editions published from McKees Rocks including the McKees Rocks Gazette, Suburban Gazette and Gazette 2.0 – has recently begun online publishing. The website is slowly growing its content in both types and quantity. Hard news coverage will be the last to be added as sponsorships are gathered.  

Currently, the McKees Rocks Community Development Corporation is sponsoring the inclusion of the community events calendar on the site. This new community resource is something many residents and organizations have requested for the community over the years. 

This new community calendar is a free amenity. The Gazette is working to make some options become a sponsor-based fee once they’ve officially launched.

Named “Around The West,” this calendar is a great way to discover fun things to do or make sure event planning doesn’t coincide with others. The more participants, the better the calendar will serve its community purpose. 

MRCDC Director of Communications and Marketing, Sonja Reis, is a partner in this new venture. She was also involved with the former print vehicle Gazette 2.0 as a mentor, editor and publisher.

On May 28, 2024, The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania presented the Service to Journalism Award to Sonja Reis and Gazette 2.0 “in recognition of outstanding contributions to Western Pennsylvania journalism.”

Gazette 2.0 was shuttered in October 2023.
